Answer: 1 Kilometers = 1000 meters = 1, 00, 000 centimeters

2. Name five large cities in India. Find their population. Also, find the distance in kilometers between each pair of these cities.

1. How many milligrams make one kilogram?

Answer: 1 Kilograms = 1000 grams = 1, 00, 000 centigrams = 10, 00, 000 milligrams

2. A box contains 2, 00, 000 medicine tablets each weighing 20 mg. What is the total weight of all the tablets in the box in grams and in kilograms?

Answer: Total weight of the tablets in the box,

2, 00, 000 × 20 mg = 4, 000, 000 mg

4, 000, 000 mg = 4, 000 gm

4, 000 gm = 4 kg

1. A bus started its journey and reached different places with a speed of 60 km/hour. The journey is shown below.

(i) Find the total distance covered by the bus from A to D.

Answer: 4170 + 3410 + 2160 = 9,740 Kilometers

(ii) Find the total distance covered by the bus from D to G.

Answer: 8140 + 4830 + 2550 = 15,520 Kilometers

(iii) Find the total distance covered by the bus, if it starts from A and returns back to A.

Answer: 4170 + 3410 + 2160 + 8140 + 4830 + 2550 + 1290 = 26,550 Kilometers

(iv) Can you find the difference of distances from C to D and D to E?

Answer: (C to D) 2160 km – 8140 km (D to E) = 5,980 kilometers

(V) Find out the time taken by the bus to reach

Answer: The speed of bus is 60 km per hour, the time taken by bus for different destinations is equal to distance travelled by bus in km divided by speed of bus per hour.

A to B =  417060=69.5 hours

C to D =  216060=36.0 hours

E to G =  4830+255060=123 hours

Total journey =  28,55060=475.83 hours

(a) Can you find the total weight of apples and oranges Raman sold last year?

Answer:

Weight of apples = 2457 kg

Weight of oranges = 3004 kg

Therefore, total weight of oranges and apples is 2457 kg + 3004 kg =5461 kg

(b) Can you find the total money Raman got by selling apples?

Answer:

The price of apples per kg is Rs 40. Raman sold total 2457 kg of apples.

Therefore, total money Raman got by selling apples = 2457 × 40 = Rs 98,280

(c) Can you find the total money Raman got by selling apples and oranges together?

Answer:

The money Raman got by selling apples = 2457 kg × 40 Rs. = Rs. 98,280

The money Raman got by selling oranges = 3004 kg × 30 Rs. = Rs. 90,120

Therefore, total money Raman got by selling apples and oranges together is

 98,280 + 90,120 = Rs 1, 88, 400

(d) Make a table showing how much money Raman received from selling each item. Arrange the entries of amount of money received in descending order. Find the item which brought him the highest amount. How much is this amount?

2. Write three different situations for (5 + 8) × 6.

(One such situation is: Sohani and Reeta work for 6 days; Sohani works 5 hours a day and Reeta 8 hours a day. How many hours do both of them work in a week?)

Situation 1: Shasi and Roopa bought 5 chocolates and 8 chocolates respectively and the cost of each chocolate is Rs.6. How much money did they spend together to buy chocolates?

Situation 2: Pihu and chinku drink 5 and 8 glasses of water everyday respectively. How many glasses of water do they drink for 6 days together?

Situation 3: In an Exhibition, Priya and Riya played 5 and 8 games respectively and the cost of each game is Rs.6. How much money did they spend together to play the games?

3. Write few situations for the following where brackets would be necessary.

Answer:

Situation 1: A shopkeeper brought 8 pens for Rs. 7 each. He sold 3 pens. What is the total cost of the remaining pens?

Situation 2: A girl has 8 dolls each costing Rs 7. She gave 3 dolls to her sister. What is the cost of remaining dolls?

Situation 3: A woman brought 8 sarees for Rs. 7 each. She sold 3 sarees. What is the cost of remaining sarees?

(b) (7 + 2) (10 – 3)

Answer:

Situation 1: Team A and Team B with 7 and 10 members respectively planned a picnic. Later 2 more members joined Team A and 3 members were absent from team B. 

Situation 2: Number of girls in the class were 7 and number of boys were 10. Later 2 girls joined the class and 3 boys left the school. 

Situation 3: Two baskets A and B have 7 oranges and 10 mangoes respectively. Mother added more 2 oranges to basket A and Ram ate 3 mangoes from basket B.
