Practice Test Discussion

Q)

Which of the following numbers always divides the difference between the square of two consecutive odd integers?

  • Explanation

Let the two consecutive odd numbers  are  (2x+1) and (2x+3)

    The difference = (2x+3)²-(2x+1)²

    = (2x+3+2x+1)(2x+3-2x-1)

    =(4x+4)×2=8(x+1)

    = 8x+8=8x+8

∴ The above equation is divisible by '8'

    Hence, Option C is correct.
