Practice Test Discussion

Q)

The difference between the sum of four consecutive odd numbers and three consecutive even numbers together is 20. Also, the largest even number is 5 more than the largest odd number. What is the sum of the smallest odd number and the smallest even number?

  • Explanation

Let the consecutive odd numbers be x,(x+2),(x+4) and (x+6)

The largest even number= x+11 and the other even numbers =x+7, x+9 and (x+11)

    ⇒ x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)-((x+7)+(x+9)+(x+11))=20

    ⇒ x-15=20

    ⇒ x=15+20=35

    ∴ Required sum is =x+(x+7)

    = 2x+7=2×35+7=77.

    Hence, Option B is correct.
