Asha Bhosle to get Yash Chopra Memorial Award

  • Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhosle will be given the ‘Yash Chopra Memorial Award’.
  • She will be the fifth winner of the award.
  • The name of Asha Bhosle is in the Guinness World Records for recording over 11,000 songs in 20 different languages.
  • The award will be presented to Asha Bhosle in February 2018.
  • The award has been instituted by the TSR Foundation of T.
  • Subbarami Reddy in memory of producer-director Yash Chopra, who died in 2012.

Parliamentary Group to confer Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards to five MPs

  • The Parliamentary Group has decided to confer Outstanding Parliamentarian Awards to five Members of Parliament. They are 
  • Dr Najma Heptulla: She is former Rajya Sabha MP and was selected for this award for the year 2013.
  • Hukumdev Narayan Yadav: He is Lok Sabha MP and was selected for this award for the year for 2014.
  • Ghulam Nabi Azad: He is Rajya Sabha and was selected for this award for the year for 2015.
  • Dinesh Trivedi: He is Lok Sabha MP and was selected for 2016.
  • Bhartruhari Mahatab: He is Lok Sabha MP and was selected for 2017.

Grammy Awards 2018- Complete List of Winners

  • The 60th Annual Grammy Awards, honoring the best achievements from October 2016 to September 2017 were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the USA.
  • James Corden was the host of the ceremony for the second year in a row.

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi wins US Documentary Grand Jury Award

  • A film on the life of Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has won the US Documentary Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival being held at Park City in Utah.
  • The documentary, titled ‘Kailash’ has been directed by debutante Derek Doneen.
  • It traces the journey of Satyarthi and his efforts to eliminate child trafficking and child labour.
  • The film has been produced by Davis Guggenheim and Sarah Anthony, and co-produced by Purnima Raghunath.

Prime Minister’s Shram Award for 2016 announced

  • The government announced that the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for 2016 are to be awarded to 50 workers with departmental undertakings, public sector undertakings and private sector units employing 500 or more workers.
  • This year, no nomination was found suitable for the prestigious ‘Shram Ratna Award’.
  • Twelve workers from SAIL, BHEL and TATA Steel Ltd have been awarded ‘Shram Bhushan’, which carries a cash award of Rs 1 lakh and a Sanad.
  • Eighteen workers from Naval Dockyard, Ordnance Factory, rashtriya Ispat Nigam, TATA Steel, Hindalco Industries, Paradeep Phosphates Ltd, Brahmos Aerospace will receive Rs 60,000 and a Sanad as Shram Vir/ Shram Veerangana Award.
  • Twenty workers will receive a cash award of Rs 40,000 and a ‘Sanad’ as Shram Shree/ Shram Devi Award from Cement Corporation of India, Naval Ship Repair Yard, TATA Motors, Surat Lignite Power Plant, Larsen & Toubro Ltd etc.

IAF Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala posthumously conferred with Ashok Chakra

  • President Ram Nath Kovind awarded India’s highest peacetime military decoration Ashok Chakra (31) posthumously to Indian Air Force (IAF) Garud commando Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala.
  • He had laid down his life after gunning down two terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • He is the third Ashok Chakra for the IAF and its first for ground combat.
  • Other two IAF officers are Rakesh Sharma (first and still only Indian citizen to go to space) and Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon posthumously decorated with the Param Vir Chakra in 1972.

Padma Awards 2018 announced: Full list of recipients

  • The President has approved the awards for 85 individuals, which includes 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri.

  • Fourteen of the awardees are women and 3 persons have been awarded posthumously.

  • In sports personalities, former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and multiple world champion cueist Pankaj Advani have been conferred with the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan.

  • The 2017 World Weightlifting Champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and former Asian Games gold medallist tennis player Somdev Devvarman have been conferred with the Padma Shri.

  • The awards are announced on the eve of the Republic Day every year.

Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palanichamy recieves UNESCO Award
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanichamy received UNESCO Award of Merit awarded to the iconic Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple in Tiruchirapalli.

  • The award of merit was awarded by UNESCO Asia Pacific region for the reconstruction activities undertaken in the temple without in the least affecting its traditional splendor and Vedic rituals.

  • It is considered as one of the most important of the 108 main Vishnu temples (Divyadesams).

Shah Rukh Khan honoured with Crystal Award at World Economic Forum

  • Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the 24th Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

  • According to the WEF, Shah Rukh Khan received Award for “his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India”.

  • Shahrukh received the award alongside Elton John and Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett.

Morgan Freeman receives Life Achievement Award

  • Morgan Freeman has been honoured with a Life Achievement Award at the 2018 Screen Actor Guild awards.

  • The 80-year-old actor became the 54th recipient of the SAG’s Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.

  • Morgan won an Oscar in 2005 for his role in Million Dollar Baby (2004).

  • President Kovind felicitated exceptional women achievers who are the first to set a milestone in their respective fields at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

  • 112 women were selected after an extensive research process by Women & Child Development Ministry.

Angelina Jolie to receive ASC Governors Awards

  • Actor-Director Angelina Jolie will be honoured by the American Society of Cinematographers with ASC Board of Governors Award.

  • Jolie will be felicitated with award during the 32nd annual ASC Awards for Outstanding Achievement on February 17 at Hollywood and Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom.

  • For her wide-ranging accomplishments, she is being honoured with the Board of Governors Award.

75th Annual Golden Globe Awards

  • The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards honored the best in film and American television of 2017.

  • The ceremony was organized at Beverly Hills, California, United States (US).

  • The Golden Globe Awards are the annual awards that honour the best in Motion Pictures and American Television for the previous year.
