Pipe A can fill the tank in 30 hours, while pipe B can fill the same tank in 10 hours, Pipe C can empty this full tank in 40 hours. If all the three pipes are opened simultaneously, how much time is needed to completely fill the tank?

  • Explanation

    According to the formula, If pipe A  and B fills a tank in x and y hours respectively, but a third pipe C empties the full tank in z hours then full tank will be filled in xyzyz+xz-xy hours.

    So,

    30×10×4030×40+10×40-30×10=12000400+1200-300=120001300=9313 hours

    The tank will be filled in 9313 hours when all the pipes are opened simultaneously.

    Hence option A is correct
