Q)

A tap can empty a tank in 60 minutes. A second tap can empty it in 30 minutes. If both the taps operate simultaneously, how much time is needed to empty the tank?

  • Explanation

According to the formula, if pipe A can comletely empties a tank in x hours and pipe B can comletely empty a tank in y hours, then the time taken by both pipes together to empty the tank is xyx+y hours.

    So, 60×3060+30=180090=20 minutes

The tank will be empties by both the pipe when opened simultaneously in 20 minutes

    Hence option A is correct
