Practice Test Discussion

Q)

Three pipes P, Q, R can fill a tank separately in 4, 5 and 6 hours respectively. Find the time taken by all three pipes to fill the tank when the pipes are opened together.

  • Explanation

According to the above given formula, If pipe A  and B fills a tank in x and y hours respectively, but a third pipe C empties the full tank in z hours then the net portion filled in 1 hour when all of them are opened together is xyzyz+xz+xy hours.

    So,

     4×5×10(4×5)+(4×10)+(5×10)=2011=1911 hours

Therefore, the tank will be filled in 1911 hours when all the pipes are opened simultaneously.

    Hence, option A is correct.
