Q)

A water tank has three taps M, N and O. M fills 5 buckets in 40 minutes, N fills 7 buckets in 50 minutes and O fills 1 buckets in 30 minutes. If all the taps are opened together, a full tank is emptied in 3 hours. If a bucket can hold 6 liters of water, what is the capacity of the tank?

  • Explanation

    Tap M fills 5 buckets in 40 minutes ⇒ 405=8 minutes

    Tap N fills 7 buckets in 49 minutes ⇒ 497=7 minutes

    Tap O fills 1 bucket in 30 minutes ⇒ 301=30 minutes

    In 3 hours,

Number of buckets filled by tap M ⇒ 1808=22.5 buckets

Number of buckets filled by tap N ⇒ 1807=25.7 buckets

Number of buckets filled by tap O ⇒ 18030=6 buckets

    Total number of buckets filled ⇒  (22.5 + 25.7 + 6) = 54.2 buckets

Total capacity of the tank = Total number of buckets filled X Capacity of each bucket

     ⇒  54.2 x 6 = 325.2 L

    Hence option B is correct.
