  • Niwari will become the 52nd district of Madhya Pradesh, with effect from October 1.
  • A proposal to this effect was cleared by the state Cabinet.

  • They are killed in huge numbers for their flesh, fat and oil.

Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TITLI’ over west central Bay of Bengal;Red Alert issued.

  • The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TITLI’ over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved northwards with a speed of about 14 kmph over West central Bay of Bengal near latitude 16.5°N and longitude 85.8°E, about 320 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 270 km southeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

  • Damage Expected over districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam of Andhra Pradesh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri districts of Odisha.

First India-Israel Innovation Centre opens in Bengaluru.

  • The country’s first India-Israel Innovation Centre (IIIC), an entrepreneurial technology hub, was launched in Bengaluru.

  • The IIIC is a significant step towards facilitating penetration of Israeli companies in India and aims to forge local partnerships and joint ventures between companies from the two countries.

  • It will provide an ecosystem to support entrepreneurship, partnership with vendors, mentoring and non-formal community development that will assist the growth of the companies in different verticals and covers business, technology, investors and customers.

Sikkim wins gold at global Future Policy Awards for promoting organic farming.

  • It is for promoting agro-ecology through policies and laws that have made it a "100 per cent organic farming" state.

  • Sikkim is 2018's winner of the "Oscar for best policies", beating 51 nominated policies from 25 countries, the international non-government body World Future Council (WFC) announced.

  • The award is co-organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Future Council (WFC) and IFOAM Organics International.

  • It was announced simultaneously at Hamburg and Rome.

A “Museum on Prime Ministers of India” to be set up in Delhi.

  • The proposed Museum is to depict Modern India through collections relating to each of the Prime Ministers of India, their lives, works and significant contributions made towards nation building.

  • The proposed Museum will include an orientation space, souvenir shop, space for organizing talks/ lectures and discussions, seminar halls, auditorium, workshop areas, library, documentation room, laboratory and archive areas.

  • The museum would be a single institution where the visitors can learn about the Prime Minister’s Office, its evolution, role & centrality to governance at the Union level, and also about the individual Prime Ministers.

Muzaffarpur’s Shahi Litchi gets GI tag.

  • The GI registration was done in the name of Litchi Growers Association of Bihar, which had applied for the tag.

  • Geographical indication is used on a product of specific geographical origin that attains its uniqueness or reputation because of its place of origin.

  • An application needs to be filed in the office of the controller general of patents, designs and trademarks.

  • The first product to get a GI tag in India was the Darjeeling tea in 2004.

  • There are a total of 325 products from India that carry this indication.

India's highest tricolour unfurled at Haj House in Mumbai
  • The 19-floor Haj House was constructed in 1987, to offer board and lodging and other facilities for Haj pilgrims.
  • A big Indian tricolourmeasuring 20x30 feet and 350 feet above the ground was unfurled at the majestic Haj House here by Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

India's first railway station inside tunnel to come up in Himachal Pradesh

  • For the first time in India, a railway station will be built inside a tunnel at a height of 3,000 metres, on the strategic Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line close to the Sino-India border.

  • The Keylong station in Himachal Pradesh will be the first on the railway network to be inside a tunnel.

  • Keylong is the administrative centre of Lahaul and Spiti district, 26 km north of Manali and 120 km from the Indo-Tibetan border.

Four Himalayan peaks named after former PM AtalBihari Vajpayee.

  • The team, which returned after the climb, had hoisted the national tricolour on each of the peaks.

  • The peaks are located at 6,557m, 6,566m, 6,160m and 6,100m on the right flank of Gangotriglacier and have been named Atal 1, Atal 2, Atal 3 and Atal 4.

  • Uzbekistan Ambassador to India FarhodArziev inaugurated a four-day international dance festival titled "UdbhavUtsav".

  • Dance troupes from Bulgaria, Turkey and Sri Lanka, apart from 25 teams from India, will participate in the event.

  • World's longest sea crossing: Hong Kong-Zhuhai bridge opens.

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping has opened the world's longest sea crossing bridge, nine years after construction first began.

  • Including its access roads, the bridge spans 55km (34 miles) and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.

  • The bridge cost about $20 billion (£15.3 billion) and should have opened in 2016.

  • Mumbai’s METRO INOX is now South Mumbai’s largest cinema and India’s First Rooftop Solar Powered Cinema.

  • It has launched two INSIGNIA screens which are 100% solar powered. It has become the first multiplex in India to join the solar revolution.

  • The INSIGNIA screens also contribute to protecting the environment by reducing 282 tons of CO2 during its operational life.

  • It is one of nine PSUs under the Union Ministry of Defence of India.

Indian Railways to build world’s highest railway line in Ladakh regionthat will run along the India-China border.

  • The rail line will have a highest road point of 5,360 metres above mean sea level.

  • The estimated cost to build this 465 km-line will be Rs 83,360 crore.

  • Keylong station on the route will be build inside a tunnel at a height of 3,000 metres, a first in India.

  • It will reduce the time to connect New Delhi with Ladakh region from currently 40 hours to 20 hours, through building strategically-important Bilaspur-Manali- Leh line along the Indo-China border.

Government to set up National Sports Stadium for differently-abled in Meghalaya

  • Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot announced the construction of the international standard Stadium for differentlyabled in Shillong, Meghalaya.

  • It would be constructed at the cost of over Rs 200 crore and the state would provide 50 acres of land for the project.

  • It will be one of the five National Sports Stadiums of international standard for differently-abled sportspersons, under the Assistance to Disabled Person scheme.

  • It should come up before National Games 2022 in Meghalaya enabling it to host Olympics for the differently-abled.

Ban on construction work in Delhi-NCR till Nov 10 to combat pollution, violators to face action
  • The announcements are the latest in a series of measures meant to combat air pollution, which is expected to enter unhealthy levels from November 1 and possibly turn hazardous over the remaining month – an occurrence that has become an annual affair over recent years.
  • The CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) can initiate criminal proceedings against the agency on the fifth day.

Assam, 1st State To Launch Wage Compensation Scheme For Pregnant Women In Tea Garden

  • Assam Government has become the first Indian state to offer a Wage Compensation Scheme for pregnant women working in the tea gardens of the state.

  • Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 12,000 will be given to the pregnant women so that they can take care of themselves and the unborn baby.
